Disability Winter Relief Appeal

This winter, we’re working alongside Hope 5 Gaza to support a camp sheltering people with disabilities. In Gaza, winter doesn’t mean cosy nights indoors — it means freezing temperatures, damp tents, and muddy ground. For disabled people, these conditions create urgent, compounding risks.

Many people in the camp live with limited mobility, chronic pain, nerve damage, injury, or conditions that make it harder to regulate body temperature. Cold weather can increase stiffness and pain, reduce circulation, and trigger respiratory problems. When bedding is thin and clothes are wet, the body loses heat fast. Dampness can also lead to skin irritation and breakdown — especially for people who sit or lie down for long periods — and simple tasks like staying dry become incredibly difficult.

Accessibility is another daily barrier. In a camp environment, paths aren’t smooth or stable. When rain comes, everything turns to mud. Reaching toilets, collecting supplies, and moving safely can become nearly impossible for wheelchair users and people who use walking aids. Queues and distributions are physically demanding, and many people depend on carers who are already stretched beyond capacity.

Donations for this appeal will go towards winter essentials such as:

  • thick blankets and bedding

  • warm clothes including coats, thermals and jumpers.

  • other winter necessities to help people stay warm and protected

Please donate if you can — and if you can’t, sharing this appeal makes a real difference.
